I spent my free-range childhood running wild on the family farm in Tyalgum, a small village on the boarder of Queensland and New South Wales. After completing my studies I continued to travel the country until finally settling in Sydney.

Working my way up in Retail, from Sales Assistant to Assistant Buyer I decided to take a year off overseas. Travelling through Asia to Europe I returned inspired to explore other creative outlets. Studying Interior Design and working alongside well-known talents in the industry, I took the leap, with the support of family and friends, to go out on my own.

The LUX Picnic Rug was inspired by vintage Kilims and a love of the outdoors. After seeing a beautiful photo of a couple saying their vows on a Persian rug in the desert, I thought how magic it was to bring a touch of old world glamour into the wilderness. But lugging an expensive hand-woven rug up and down mountains didn’t seem practical. So after not finding what I was visualising, I decided to design my own LUX Picnic Rug.

Bringing Gold Scout and The LUX Picnic Rug to life has taken over four years of hard work and dedication. Sourcing quality materials, that don’t cost the earth (literally), travelling to and negotiating with Chinese factory owners, networking and learning the ins and outs of the start-up world, I hope to fund Gold Scouts first production with the help of backers on the crowd funding platform, Kickstarter.
